Racine School Board Loses Two Members

Sept. 5, 2023 11:20a

(WGTD)---Two members of the nine-member Racine School Board have submitted their resignations for unrelated personal reasons.

Matt Hanser served on the board for the past seven years while Auntavia Jackson was elected to her first term two years ago.

The remaining board members are expected to appoint replacements.

Applications are being sought. Applicants must reside in either the 6th or 8th districts and must submit to the superintendent's office a declaration of candidacy, a campaign registration statement, a cover letter and a resume. The deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 13th.

According to a news release from the district, appointees will serve until April 21st of next year.

Special elections for both positions will be held in the spring.

The winner in the 6th district--Jackson's district--will serve a full three-year term while the seat up for grabs in the 8th district--Hanser's--will serve a one-year term.

In her resignation letter, Jackson said she enjoyed serving but needed to resign.

In his letter, Hanser said he needed to resign because of "personal circumstances." "It has been an honor to serve staff, students, parents and community over the last 7 years," he wrote.
