From WGTD News:

Racine Circuit Court Judge Maureen Martinez is retiring in mid-November. She was appointed in late 2018 by then-Gov. Walker to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Emily Mueller. Before becoming a judge, Martinez was a deputy district attorney. Gov. Evers’ office is now seeking applicants to fill the position through the end of July 2024. The seat goes up for election in spring.

The Racine Coalition for Peace and Justice will be holding a demonstration tonight at the Martin Luther King Plaza at State and Marquette. The Coalition is calling it a “Stand for Peace” in the Middle East. The coalition would like to see an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. In a Facebook post, the Coalition also condemns Hamas for its attacks on Israel, but also criticizes Israeli policy on Gaza. The demonstration in Racine is scheduled to take place from five to six.

The victims of two recent homicides in Racine will be remembered at a pair of Racine Interfaith Coalition prayer vigils that’ll be held Sunday afternoon and evening. The first will take place at 4 p.m. in the 4000 block of Victory Ave. That’s where a man shot his step-brother-in-law in a dispute over a probate court matter. The second will take place an hour later at College Ave. and 11th St. There, a man shot his brother as the result of arguments that also involved the victim’s girlfriend.  Arrests have been made in both cases. The coalition is asking the public to attend to take a stand against gun violence.
