Racine Homicide May Have Been a Thrill Killing

Aug. 19, 2024 9:30p

(WGTD)---The 49-year-old man who was fatally shot in Racine while sitting on a porch and hanging out with friends earlier this month may have been the victim of a thrill killing.

A pair of 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old are facing charges of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide and car-jacking.

According to the criminal complaint, a driver on College Ave. Friday evening, Aug. 9th had a gun pulled on him and was told to get out of his car. He took off running into a nearby park while the three carjackers drove off in his car.

The youngest defendant told investigators that one of the older boys said "something about just killing the first person they see," the complaint says.

The apparent, eventual targets were several men on a porch in the 5500 blk. of Byrd Ave. 15 minutes later.

One of the men, who was hit but survived the shooting, said he saw a car drive up but didn't notice anything unusual. Within minutes, he heard popping noises he initially thought were fireworks. He then saw one of his friends dive for cover and then did the same. Once the shooting stopped, the man said he checked on his friend and discovered he wasn't moving. Before the night was out, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The 15-year-old, identified as Alexjandro Medina, and one of the 17-year-olds, Cincere Davis, appeared in court Monday where bond was set at $100,000.  Police are still looking for the third suspect, identified as Latrell Davis.
