(WGTD)---A decision by a Racine City Council member to forego re-election has opened the door for four candidates.
The seat currently held by Amanda Paffrath is now being sought by David Maack, Keith Fair, Jacqueline Schrader and Jordan Lawrence.
In the second district, Mollie Jones has three challengers. They are David Czuper, Kendall Golden and Tyler Townsend.
As a result, primaries will need to be held in both of those districts.
Incumbent Jeff Peterson is the only other incumbent who’s not seeking re-election. Because he failed to file the proper notice on time, the filing deadline in the 6th has been extended to tomorrow night. At last report, former alderwoman Sandy Weidner was the only candidate to have filed in that district. The four incumbents who are running unopposed are Henry Perez, Sam Peete, Marcus West and Alecia Jarrett.
The Racine School Board is a candidate short. No one filed nomination papers by Tuesday night’s deadline for the seat currently held by Julie McKenna. McKenna decided to step down after 25 years of service. A write-in candidate will presumably take the seat next April on the nine-member board. Two incumbents whose terms are expiring have no opponent. They are Ally Docksey and April Harris. Incumbent Nikki Fisher, who was appointed to fill a vacancy last year, will face a challenger by the name of Mike Bellagio.
Of the 21 seats on the Racine County Board, only three will be contested this spring. Incumbent Tom Rutkowski will be challenged by Andy Karch. Marlo Harmon has drawn opposition from Brett Nielsen. And Olga White will face a challenge from Tony Veranth. Two newcomers will take seats on the board because they’re the only candidates on the ballot. Tom Pruesker will fill the seat held by Edward Chart, who died last month. Gary Kolb will replace Robert Grove, who declined to seek re-election.
