(WGTD)---Chrystul Kizer pleaded guilty Thursday to an amended charge of 2nd Degree Reckless Homicide, heading off what would've been a high-profile trial in the 2018 murder of Randall Volar.
Kizer was originally charged with 1st Degree Intentional Homicide. With the plea, sentencing has now been scheduled for Aug. 19th.
Kizer was 17 when she shot and killed Volar and set his house on fire. At the time, Volar was under investigation for allegedly trying to traffic underage African-American girls.
Kizer claimed she was the victim of sex trafficking as well. The state Supreme Court ruled last year that Kizer's attorneys could use an "affirmative defense" in an attempt to absolve her of any criminal liability.
The case has received national attention.
