(WGTD)---Lifesaving awards were presented last month to a half-dozen Kenosha police officers who had roles in two separate incidents that involved patients with heart problems.
On December 2nd, Sgt. Ben Antaramian and officers Daniel Barbian, Vincient Hubli and Cassandra Botica responded to a home on a report of an unresponsive resident. Before paramedics arrived, the officers performed CPR and administered defibrillator shocks. The woman survived without any brain damage. The fire department credits the quick actions of the officers.
The other incident occurred Sept. 11th at another home. Officers Michael O’Neill and Eric Shupryt performed CPR and administered shocks to save a man’s life.
The patient in this case was identified as Al Swartz. The officers had relieved Swartz's son who'd been performing CPR on his father.
The awards were presented at Monday's meeting of the Police and Fire Commission.
The meeting was moved from the Municipal Building to the Kenosha Public Museum to accommodate an anticipated larger-than-normal crowd.
In addition to the lifesaving award presentations, the commission formally hired a dozen firefighters to fill retirements and vacancies.
