(WGTD)---A proposal to reinstate a mandatory mask requirement in public places in Kenosha will be formally introduced at Monday night's City Council meeting.
It's coming from Alder Anthony Kennedy, who, despite being vaccinated, contracted COVID-19 last month as the number of COVID cases were starting to increase.
Kennedy said it's important for the city to do what it can to try to head off a repeat of what happened last year. "We are seeing numbers that are very, very similar to where we were in August of last year, and we saw a tsunami of numbers in September and October of last year," Kennedy said at the Aug. 3rd meeting of the City Council. "Let's try to stay ahead of the situation."
Kennedy's mask proposal is actually a series of amendments to what had been put in place in the city last year. The list of exceptions to the requirement remains the same. The amended ordinance would remain in effect until the end of March, 2022.
No decisions are expected Monday night. The matter is expected to be taken up first by the council's Public Safety and Welfare Committee, then go back to the full council.
Kennedy tells WGTD News that he's optimistic that a mask mandate do-over will pass.
