(WGTD)---The Kenosha County Board voted Wednesday night to reject taking on the role of, as one supervisor put it, public library "smut-buster."
The board voted 16-5 against a proposal from Supervisor Tim Stocker to request that public libraries protect children by segregating in special sections materials that are considered to be obscene.
Opponents argued that obscenity is subjective, and that the proposal lacked specificity on how libraries should go about implementing such a policy.
Supervisor Terry Rose argued that the county board would embarrass itself by passing such a proposal that would cast it as county "smut-buster."
Kenosha Public Library Director Barb Brattin has said flat-out that the library does not offer pornographic material.
