Kenosha Cops Visit Hobby Lobby, and it Ain't to Buy Crafts

March 31. 2020 5:10p; Updated 4-1

Update: Hobby Lobby in Kenosha was closed Wednesday.

(WGTD)---A plain-clothes Kenosha Police officer paid a visit to Hobby Lobby late Tuesday afternoon in an effort to persuade them to obey Gov. Evers' "Safer at Home" order.

The chain has been determined to be a "non-essential" business and should close, according to state officials. The store begs to differ and at least initially defied the edict.

Violators could be fined up to $250 and receive up to a month in jail.

The Kenosha officer, on his way in, told WGTD News he wasn't there to issue a ticket, but rather to offer guidance and request that the store close voluntarily.

A short while after the visit, a store employee hung up on a reporter who called to check on the store's status.

TMJ4 reported Tuesday that at least a couple other Hobby Lobby stores in the suburban Milwaukee area remained open after the gubernatorial order was issued, then closed after being told to do so.
