(WGTD)---That new addition to the Shalom Center now has a name: The Hope Hub.
Shalom—which has been offering shelter and food to down-on-their luck Kenosha area residents for decades—is planning on dedicating the new facility later this year.
The $2.4 million, 10,500 sq. ft. addition--already paid for by an anonymous donor--was announced last year.
Speaking recently on Community Matters, Shalom Center Director Tamarra Coleman explained that the new addition will serve as a resource center and referral service. "When I say connect, I don't mean hand them a brochure and say call this number," Coleman explained. "It'll be coming into the office and sitting down and 'let's navigate the waters with you.' And it will look different for each person. We have to start serving people in a different way."
The Hope Hub will include clothes washers and dryers and showers. Office space is being offered to various social service agencies. It's also expected to serve as a cooling and warming center when conditions warrant.
