(WGTD)---The author of best-selling books on leadership remembers getting some lousy advice fresh out of college just as she was assuming a leadership role in her first job.
Speaking on Thursday's Morning Show, Liz Wiseman said she was told to tackle the job’s most pressing matters, personally. "My boss said to me, 'Your job as a leader is to do everything that is new, important and hard. That's the work you do, and you give everything else to your team,'" Wiseman recounted. "It sounded like great guidance but you can imagine six months later what this department looks like with me doing all the heavy lifting," she said.,
In later life, Wiseman went on to write the New York Times best-seller “Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter."
"The best leaders are not just geniuses, they are genius-makers. They bring all of their own intelligence to bear in a way that asks a good question, knows the right challenge, spots the genius in others and orchestrates this in a way that brings out the genius in people around them," Wiseman said. "It's a smart way of leading."
Wiseman is one of the headliners at the Kenosha Area Business Alliance’s “Inspire” leadership development and networking event that takes place Friday, Oct. 13th at Journey Church in Kenosha.
The conference is open to the public.
