(WGTD)---A house fire that broke out during the noon hour Sunday in the Whitecaps neighborhood rekindled early Monday morning, leaving almost nothing standing.
According to Kenosha police, firefighters responded to 9429 69th St. Sunday at 12:39 p.m. on a report of a possible basement fire.
Then at some point after midnight, the fire, whipped up by strong winds, apparently rekindled, prompting the evacuation of some neighboring homes and triggering a mutual aid request. A city bus was brought in for shelter and the Racine Fire Bells responded.
The house collapsed. By mid-morning, about the only thing left standing in the lot amidst the rubble was a gable and ice-covered trees. The side of an adjacent home was scorched. Neighbors were out chipping away at a thick layer of ice on nearby sidewalks and driveways.
The house is located about a block east of Nash Elementary.
Police had no reports of any injuries.
No information was immediately available from the fire department.
