End of Kenosha Era

July 7, 2023 11:45

(WGTD)---A family that's operated a gas station in Kenosha for nearly 70 years is calling it quits.

If all goes as planned, the Perrine family will turn over the keys to an Indiana investment company Wednesday morning.

Lou Perrine's Gas and Grocery operates out of two locations: The original store at 52nd St. and Sheridan Rd. and a relatively new location at 22nd Ave. and 80th St.

"I think it's time," said Lou Perrine, Jr., who father, Lou Perrine, Sr. started a full-service Clark station in 1954.

Anthony, the grandson who now controls the business, is the one who negotiated the deal to sell.

Although the stores will no longer carry the Perrine name, the new owners promised to keep the two stores' employees, according to Lou Perrine, Jr.

Upon hearing the news, State Senator Bob Wirch issued a statement: "What a bittersweet day. Lou Perrine's isn't just a store in Kenosha. Lou Perrine's IS Kenosha."
