(WGTD)---A gunfight on Kenosha’s north side Wednesday afternoon resulted in injuries to one person and the lockdown of a nearby elementary school.

31-year-old Elijah Varnell was charged Friday with reckless injury and endangering safety. Bond was set at $75,000.

According to a news release, Varnell exchanged gunfire with another man outside of an apartment building in the 1700 blk. of Birch Rd.

According to the criminal complaint, Varnell had gone to the apartment to retrieve some items from his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his children. Varnell and the woman got into an argument. The woman's new boyfriend, 27-year-old Dashawn Wright,  tried to intervene.

Wright wound up getting shot in the leg and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Varnell was booked into the Kenosha County jail.

Bose Elementary was the school that had the lockdown.
