(WGTD)---Crews from We Energies and private contractors are gradually whittling down the number of homes and businesses who were left without power in the wake of Friday night's storms.
As of noon Sunday, nearly 500 customers were without power in Kenosha County--most are located in the city. The list in Racine County numbered just over 400. The number of homes and businesses in Walworth County on the We Energies grid without power was just over 600.
Due to widespread damage caused by the storm, full restoration may not occur until Monday. according to Brendan Conway at We Energies.
System-wide, nearly 80,000 customers lost power. "We are on track to restore 95% by tonight (Sunday night)," Conway said in an email to WGTD. "Our crews will continue working around the clock until all customers have their power back on," he said.
Near 73rd St. and 10th Ave. in Kenosha at mid-morning, a four-man crew from MP Systems first worked to remove a damaged tree that had knocked down power lines, then, working from buckets high in the air, untangled wires and reconnected them. That particular outage had affected 75 customers.
