A County Study of What Went Wrong--And Right--In The Local Response to the 2020 Riots Still Not Released

Aug. 23, 2024 4:05p

(WGTD)---The results of a nearly two-year-old study to determine how Kenosha County could better prepare itself to handle a variety of crises such as the 2020 civil unrest and riots remain under wraps.

Friday is the fourth anniversary of the police shooting of Jacob Blake which touched off the violence and vandalism.

Nearly two years ago, County Board Supervisor Dave Geersten proposed hiring a company to study—among other things—the county and city response to the 2020 riots with an eye toward making recommendations for overall preparedness improvements. The county board and county executive both approved and the study was launched.

But in an email this week, county attorney Joe Cardamone said the study is still in "draft" stage.

In addition, Cardamone noted that the August 2020 events remain the subject of “active litigation rendering the report privileged work product.”
