Boat Arson Traced to a Family Member

Oct. 23, 2023 9p

(WGTD)---A sad, frustrating story for a Kenosha family.

A 27-year-old man admitted to torching his parents' boat as it was docked last week at Reef Point Marina in Racine. The 35-foot yacht and a portion of the dock were destroyed. No one was injured.

The son was charged Monday with arson and criminal damage and was being held on a bond of $25,000.

According to the criminal complaint, the son had started two other fires on family property in the past, and because of this, the family had put a tracking device on his car.

The complaint included a reference to the family seeking counseling for the man, but it apparently was unwanted.

The complaint quotes the man as saying he set fire to the boat because he was upset with his parents and sister getting him "chaptered"--or committed to a mental facility--following the last arson.
