Another Officer-Involved Fatal Shooting in Walworth County

Elkhorn---A Walworth County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed the driver of a vehicle who had led officers on a chase Thursday night.

Neither the deputy or the man that died has been identified.

According to a news release, authorities had been on the look-out for a reckless driver that initially was spotted in nearby Waukesha County.

Deputies spotted a vehicle maching the description of the suspect's near the Elkhorn city limits at about 10 p.m. When the driver refused to pull over, they gave chase.

The pursuit ended with the driver pulling into a parking lot in an industrial area in Elkhorn on Centralia St.

The vehicle came to a stop. A deputy got out of his squad. According to the release, that's when the driver purportedly drove toward the deputy, who then shot and killed the man.

The state Division of Criminal Investigations was called in to investigate, per a new state law that requires an independent investigation of officer-involved shootings.

No other information was released.

According to a tally from WISN TV, this is the fourth officer-related shooting in less than three years in Walworth County.

One of those cases involved a story similar to Thursday's.

All three shootings were eventually declared justified by the Justice Dept.
