(WGTD)---At Journey Church in a Kenosha Friday, a well-attended program to honor local veterans was followed by another event filled with references to partisan politics.
Republican U.S. Senator Ron Johnson was the highlighted speaker at Christian Life School’s annual Veterans Day program. "I just want to end by telling you how much this day being here in this moment has inspired me in giving me hope," Johnson concluded. "So again (I) thank all of you veterans for your service and sacrifice for stepping up to the plate to defend our freedom."
The commemoration ended with patriotic music, and a salute to dozens of local veterans who were invited to the front of the church to be recognized.
A post-event celebration outside of the church featured food and refreshments and what was billed as a town hall with veterans.
The first veteran to speak made an observation about the current Middle East crisis, while the next veteran made comments and asked a question about election integrity. In response, Johnson criticized the governor for not supporting election-related bills, and then accused Democrats of wanting to make it easy to cheat at the ballot box. "Folks on the other side of the political spectrum want to make it easy to cheat," he said.
Johnson’s main message at the town hall was that there are forces in the country that are looking to divide the nation. Johnson spoke of transgender references in schools, and university and college campuses which he said are controlled by the “radical left.”
