Part One- Tracey Baptiste talks about her newest children's book "Mermaid and PIrate." Baptiste is well-known for a much-discussed piece she wrote for the New York Times in response to widespread criticism of Disney for casting a young black actress as Ariel in their live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. In the piece, Baptiste explained how ludicrous it is to insist that mermaids must be white; the folklore of mermaids and mermaid-like beings exist in nearly every culture on earth. (The mermaid in her new book is black.) Part Two: Edson Melendez talks about the Racine Theater Guild's production of "Stand and Deliver," which opens this Friday. Melendez is the director.
