Kenosha Yacht Club Restaurant Space to Partially Reopen

Kenosha aldermen aren't in the restaurant business, but they do have a legitimate interest in one eatery: The restaurant space that's located inside the Yacht Club on Simmons Island. That's because the Yacht Club sits on land that's owned by the city.

Judging from comments at Wednesday's City Council meeting, some aldermen are losing patience with the club's management of the space. Operators have come and gone in recent years, leaving the place closed for months at a time, even though the location is a prime piece of real estate with panoramic views of the harbor channel.

The Yacht Club is in the process of recruiting yet another operator.

Wednesday night, the Council voted 10 to 4 to allow the club to open the bar portion of the building without a restaurateur in place.

Ald. David Bogdala led the charge against granting the license.

Ald. John Fox supported the move. "We are not here to tell a business how to run their establishment," he said.

The council debated the matter for over an hour.
