(WGTD)---A criminal defense attorney with no experience as a prosecutor is Kenosha County’s next district attorney.
Xavier Solis defeated the office's deputy district attorney, Carli McNeill, by two percentage points, or a little over two-thousand votes.
Solis will replace Mike Graveley, who’s retiring.
Solis ran as a Republican while McNeill ran as a Democrat.
McNeill’s candidacy was supported by all of her colleagues in the D-A’s office, and by the unions that represent Kenosha police officers and Kenosha County deputy sheriff’s.
While shunning most media interviews, Solis ran a campaign that was highly critical of the district attorney’s office.
Solis was the last chair of the Kenosha County Racial and Ethnic Equity Commission before it was disbanded by Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman. His appointment drew heavy criticism from some quarters.
