Black Point Estate on Geneva Lake is scheduled to begin its eleventh season of public tours during the first week of May.
And the 1880’s era mansion built by a Chicago beer baron will be just as hard to access as it always has been for members of the general public. They either take a cruise boat or a charter bus. Speaking recently on the WGTD Saturday morning show ‘Generation Now,’ Black Point director David Desimone said limiting access was part of the deal cut with neighbors when the home in essence became a museum. "It's a very quiet sort of secluded area on Geneva Lake," Desimone said. "The neighbors were concerned in part that the additional vehicle traffic would be detrimental to the neighborhood."
Another concern was the extremely limited parking.
The well-preserved mansion and its contents were donated to the state in 2005 by the fourth generation of the family that built the place.
It’s now part of a network of state-owned historical sites, supported by admission fees and several endowment funds.
