(WGTD)---A good-news update on a WGTD Community Matters program that aired last month.
A fundraising campaign to purchase at least two drones for the Kenosha Fire Department has met its goal.
The drones—with infrared detection and two-way communications capability—were expected to be ordered this week.
The campaign was launched last year after the fire department borrowed a drone from a citizen to search for a Lake Michigan drowning victim.
Police and Fire Commission member Rick Gallo led the effort. He’s also President of the Kenosha County AFL-CIO.
Gallo tells Community Matters host Jayne Herring in a follow-up conversation that two large donations that came in recently put the campaign over the top.
The fundraising, however, is continuing. Gallo says a third drone may be ordered, or the extra funds may be applied toward training.
The next fundraiser is a pizza bake-off coming up this Sunday at Ruffolo’s Special Pizza.
