Kenosha Police: 5 Arrested in Connection With Building Fire

(WGTD)---Five teenagers were arrested for allegedly starting a fire Sunday evening that caused heavy damage to a vacant industrial building on Kenosha's north side. 

According to a news release from the police department, witnesses heard what sounded like fireworks being shot off inside the former North American Salt Plant at 4500 13th Ct. They then observed five boys fleeing the area on bikes.

Officers located three of the boys while the two others turned themselves in. All are 16.

Each teen was charged with one count of disorderly conduct and one count of negligent handling of burning materials, both misdemeanors. The juveniles were released to their parents.

The fire was brought under control about 30 minutes after firefighters arrived at the scene. 

Firefighters from Pleasant Prairie, Somers, Bristol and Newport backfilled city fire stations and assisted at the fire scene, according to a release from the Kenosha Fire Department.
