Kenosha Man Returns to Area With Family to Farm; Takes Leadership Role in Promoting 'Regenerative Farming'

(WGTD)---A man who left a brokerage career in Chicago is now leading the charge in Kenosha County to encourage farmers to adopt more environmentally-friendly ways of operating.

Paul Maggio is the president of a new group called Kenosha County Regenerative Producers. It’s made up of area farmers who’ve come together to learn about regenerative farming, and spread the word to other farmers.

Maggio, a Kenosha native, returned to the area with his family a few years ago to run a small farm in Wheatland that they dubbed “Starry Nights Farm."

The farming method that Maggio and his group promotes involves a complex, interconnected process of using cover crops, rotational grazing and other things without traditional tilling, fertilizers and pesticides. The process helps to build the soil, purify water, support wildlife and in a small way stabilize the climate.

Funding for the group comes from the Enroth Foundation and a grant through the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

The group is similar to one that’s been in place in Racine County for years.

Maggio and rotational grazing expert Kirsten Jursek were on WGTD’s Morning Show last week.
