(WGTD)---Kenosha County’s new district attorney says he believes the office won’t be hit with a mass exodus of attorneys as a result of last month’s election.
Xavier Solis went before the county board’s Judiciary and Law Enforcement Committee Wednesday night to formally introduce himself.
Solis, who defeated the number two prosecutor in the office, Carli McNeill, will take over January 6th. The current D-A, Michael Graveley, is retiring.
Despite losing, McNeill had locked up most of the major endorsements in the race, including support from many current employees of the office.
Solis told the committee he believes “two or three” attorneys may be leaving, but he expects the office to be fully staffed within a month or two. "I know people have been saying that people are going to quit and there will be no one there to prosecute defendants or prosecute criminals," Solis said. "At least the feedback I'm getting or the people I've been talking to---that's not going to be the case. So I don't want anyone to go out there and panic and say oh my god no one is going to be there to work there."
In addition to the two or three attorneys that might be leaving, Solis said he’s aware of the departure of a staffer in the office’s victim/witness division.
In response to a question from a committee member, Solis said he believes the transition is going “pretty good.”
Solis recently announced that he plans to promote long-time assistant D-A Andrew Burgoyne to the position of Deputy D-A.
