(WGTD)---The company that built a large solar farm in the Town of Paris is looking at other projects in the area.
Invenergy is wrapping up work on the 1,500-acre Paris Solar Project. The site is already producing power for We Energies, although a battery installation is not yet complete.
Town Chair John Holloway says the company is now looking at developing a project just as big on either side of the Kenosha/Racine county line. "They're trying to find enough land up there (Yorkville) to build another solar farm equivalent to what they built here in Paris," he said. "And they've been reaching out to some Paris landowners about possibly participating in that one."
Holloway says there’s a reason for the high interest in Kenosha and Racine counties among solar developers. A state study showed that the area is well-suited for solar. "They rated every county in Wisconsin on its suitability for efficient solar generation and this belt of Kenosha, Racine and a little bit of Milwaukee County shows up as some of the most effective areas for the generation of solar energy," Holloway said.
Smaller solar farms are popping up as well.
A company is seeking approval from Kenosha County to install panels on a 23-acre tract of land north of County ‘K’ or 60th St. and east of County ‘D’.
It would be similar in size to a solar farm already in place along the Salem Lakes/Wheatland line north of Highway 50.
