Interim Racine County Exec is Chosen

July 24, 2024 9:15p

(WGTD)---Racine County now has an interim county executive.

Longtime county board supervisor and former Waterford village president Tom Roanhouse will fill the role until the winner of a scheduled December special election can be seated.

The vacancy was created by the unexpected death of Jonathan Delagrave.

Roanhouse was nominated by county board chair Tom Kramer. The choice was then unanimously ratified by the full board at Tuesday night's county board meeting.

In brief comments, Roanhouse called Delagrave a buddy and pledged to carry out his agenda. "I'm going to pretend Jonathan is passing me the baton with unwavering trust and I'm going to look him in the eye and say I won't do anything to jeopardize the trust and will keep the train on the tracks," he said.

In order to take the interim position, Roanhouse had to step down from the board.

No one has announced a candidacy for the special election. The deadline for filing nominating papers isn’t until October.
